Disable Click Through on Portfolio items

Hi there

I have a page which features portfolio projects from a certain category and I would like the click-through ability of these portfolio items on this page/in this category ONLY to be disabled. Basically I would like to display images on this page with the same hover functionality as a portfolio item – they don’t necessarily need to be part of the portfolio. Ideally I would like the click action to open the media file but it isn’t a trainsmash if it is not possible.
